Sr. Product Manager Who Builds

01 — About

Builder.
Owner.
Product Manager.

I am a product manager who loves to build. I am at my best when I get to make working things quickly for real users, and when someone hands me a messy problem I fix it, and leave it documented so nobody has to chase me about it again.

Today I am a Sr. Product Manager on Internal Systems at Lucid Software, where I led the launch of Nexus (Lucid's in-house billing platform, which cut median order fulfillment from 69 hours to under a minute) and now own AI strategy for internal systems. Before that I worked at Tesla on and off from 2017 to 2024, starting as an intern and moving through support engineering, program management and product management on internal tools.

I have also been building things on the side since college, first with co-founders (a phishing awareness service, a student housing marketplace at BYU and a point of sale system for a video rental store) and lately on my own with AI (a maintenance tracker, a collection of ad-free games for my wife, an AI-powered financial advisor that replaced my previous (human) financial advisor, and the Claude Code workspace I use to do my job).

Where I want to go next is more of the building. I am interested in product roles where I build (i.e. builder PM, AI product or forward deployed work), especially at a company whose mission I believe in. I am based in Salt Lake City and open to relocating for the right one.

Outside of work: off-roading in Moab, soccer, popcorn, troublshooting, golf (poorly), wrenching on a 1971 Land Cruiser, motorcycles, documentation, and 3D design & printing.

What colleagues say

"

He is a high ownership, high output product manager who nails just about everything he touches. … You hand him a problem and it gets solved, usually better than you scoped it and usually without you having to check in. … What sets him apart is his judgment. He cares about doing real, durable work over looking busy, and he will say the honest thing in the room even when it is not the easy thing to say. He is usually right.

"

Thomas is the kind of Product Manager you want in the trenches with you when execution is critical. He joined Lucid Software as the PM for the Billing and Payments teams years into a sprawling, multi-year project overhauling the company’s in-house billing system, and was a key piece to delivering a successful launch. … He successfully navigated a tangled web of stakeholders to negotiate necessary scope cuts, distilling requirements into an achievable timeline. Thomas was responsible for getting the project to a place where it could be launched.

"

Thomas redefined the value I thought a product manager could bring to an internal role. … Through this close collaboration I witnessed many of his unique strengths: not only is he direct and proactive, he’s also very technically savvy. During urgent emergencies, Thomas dropped everything to help out. Not only would he coordinate with stakeholders, he would also actively triage and brainstorm solutions with engineers.

"

Thomas directly spearheaded the development and successful delivery of our in-house security software, a critical project that enhanced our operational capabilities significantly. His strategic oversight didn’t stop there; he was instrumental in setting up the roadmap for the in-house survey platform, which will save up to $1M/yr in costs and give Tesla full control over its customer and employee feedback channels.

"

Exceptional drive and determination is what comes to mind when I think about Thomas. He expertly stepped into a large-scale project and "took the bull by the horns" when no one else did. He took a project that should have taken months to complete, across the finish line in a matter of weeks. His ability to engage multiple stakeholders was what contributed to such a successful product launch. Anyone would be lucky to have Thomas be a part of their company.

"

Thomas rocks! He communicates well, takes on tasks outside of his assigned duties, and covers for me when swamped. He saved us on multiple occasions by finding hidden project requirements. He is a self-starter who gets stuff done. Overall I highly recommend him.
